Davao Light and Power Co. and Aboitiz Foundation Support Philippine Eagle Foundation with New National Bird Breeding Sanctuary Laboratory
Davao City, December 19, 2024 – In a bid to strengthen conservation efforts for the critically endangered Philippine Eagle, Davao Light and Power Co. (DLPC), in collaboration with the Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., officially turned over a Php 2-million prefabricated facility to the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF). This new facility serves as the National Bird Breeding Sanctuary (NBBS) Laboratory and was inaugurated in a ceremony led by DLPC's Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Enriczar Tia.
The state-of-the-art laboratory, located within the 13-hectare National Bird Breeding Sanctuary in the Eden Tourism Reservation Area in Barangay Eden, Toril, Davao City, is a major addition to the PEF's facilities dedicated to the preservation and protection of the iconic Philippine Eagle. The new structure boasts an incubation room, a chick-rearing area, a staff quarter, and a kitchen, which will enhance the foundation's capacity for breeding and nurturing young eagles, a vital aspect of their conservation program. Prefab Project Ph by Builder Beavers Construction and Supply OPC was responsible for supplying and installing the laboratory, ensuring that it met the specific needs of the sanctuary.
Currently, there are 10 Philippine Eagles residing in the sanctuary, which plays a critical role in safeguarding the species and supporting its population growth. The 105-hectare Eden Tourism Reservation Area, managed by the Davao City government, provides an ideal environment for the eagles to thrive, offering ample space for their protection and study.
The partnership between DLPC, Aboitiz Foundation, and the Philippine Eagle Foundation exemplifies the importance of corporate responsibility in preserving the country's natural heritage. The new NBBS Laboratory is expected to contribute significantly to the long-term success of the Philippine Eagle conservation program.
With this new facility, the PEF continues its vital work in ensuring the survival of the Philippine Eagle, which remains one of the world's most endangered species. The turn-over event highlights the ongoing collaboration between local corporations, foundations, and government agencies to protect and conserve the Philippines' unique biodiversity for future generations.
